Chapter Ten

Vanessa knew she was taking a big leap of faith, but there was something in Brice’s tone and the way he looked at her that let her know he would never hurt her. Oh, he was as big as a tree, but gentle as a lamb. She still didn’t know why she accepted him into her bath, or why she allowed him to give her one of the best orgasms she had ever had. It was more of a feeling than anything else, and when he cried before her, he opened his soul to her. It was one of the most endearing moments of her life, one that she would never forget. There was no way their story was over, and she was eager to see what life had planned for her as long as Brice was with her.

After unwrapping her towel, she threw it on the floor and lay on the bed, her arms raised out for his embrace. Brice stood, letting his towel fall to the floor besides hers, and joined her in bed.

Her fingers glided against his smooth skin, sending a small but sudden chill up her back. There wasn’t a stitch of hair on him, just ripples and ripples of muscle. He was beautiful, like a sculpted masterpiece, and he was here in bed with her. It was getting hard to concentrate, but she fought to maintain her composure. “I hope you like me.”

“Baby, I’m gonna tell you something, and I don’t want you freak out on me, okay?”

“Okay,” she whispered.

“From the moment I first laid eyes on you, I loved you. I didn’t know you at the time, but my heart did, and since that moment, I’ve fallen deeper in love with you. This moment couldn’t be more precious to me.”

Vanessa listened, though his bare chest and the feel of the muscles in his arm, just under her fingertips, distracted her mind. “You love me?”

“With all my heart.” Brice smiled as he cupped her face. His touch was like fire on her body. She was hot for him. The words that escaped his mouth seemed to take forever as she found herself lost in him.

Snuggling up closer to him, she felt childish, as if she were experiencing a first date with a man all over again. He looked down at her, and she up at him. When Brice smiled out of the corner of his mouth, she seemingly retreated, unsure of what to do next. She had never been in this position before. Oh, she could be assertive before, but she never had to be before. Before, the men she was with took control, and she followed. However, Brice lay before her, still watching her as she watched him. Waiting for what she thought was inevitable, but saddened when it never came. It seemed like minutes had passed, and she felt maybe a little disappointed that he hadn’t taken control of her. Then, as she dropped her arm to her side, she heard him growl.
